President Bola Tinubu to Attend G20 Leaders Summit in Brazil
President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 19th G20 Leaders Summit, scheduled for November 18 and 19. The summit, hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, will bring together leaders from the world's largest economies to discuss pressing global issues.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the theme of the summit was highlighted as "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet." Key discussions will revolve around combating poverty and hunger, facilitating energy transition, and promoting sustainable development.
During the summit, President Tinubu is expected to advocate for reforms in global governance institutions, a priority that has long been championed by Nigeria.
Onanuga emphasized, “Nigeria has consistently championed the reform of global governing institutions and presented its strong credentials for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.”
Additionally, the President will engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders to further Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms, focusing particularly on agriculture, energy, and infrastructure.
Accompanying President Tinubu on this important trip are Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Livestock Development Mukhtar Maiha, and Minister of Arts, Tourism, Culture, and Creativity Hannatu Musawa.
