Nigerian-American Teen Ugo Ugochukwu Makes History with FIA FR World Cup and Macau Grand Prix Win
Seventeen-year-old Ugo Ugochukwu has made headlines by winning the 2024 FIA Formula Regional World Cup and the prestigious 71st Macau Grand Prix, showcasing an impeccable performance throughout the weekend. With this victory, Ugochukwu becomes the first driver from the USA to win the Macau Grand Prix since Bob Earl in 1981.
Representing R-ace GP, Ugochukwu dominated the race, leading from start to finish despite multiple safety car interventions. He outpaced competitors Olivier Goethe from MP Motorsport and Noel León from KCMG IXO by Pinnacle Motorsport, demonstrating remarkable skill and composure on the challenging Macau circuit.
Born in New York to Nigerian supermodel Oluchi and Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi, Ugochukwu has quickly risen through the ranks in car racing. His flawless execution during the race has set the stage for his upcoming transition to FIA Formula 3 in 2025.
Reflecting on his achievement, Ugochukwu expressed his elation: “I can’t describe the feeling, of course I’m super happy. It was quite a tricky race, I was pushing the whole way, but I was confident in the pace. Ever since Q2 we’ve been really quick, and we managed to win the main race. I can’t thank the R-ace GP team enough – we had a great weekend, and yeah, super happy to finally get the job done.
