Governor Adeleke Warns Osun Monarchs Amid Deadly Communal Clashes
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning to traditional rulers in the state, threatening dethronement if the ongoing communal clashes between Ifon and Ilobu persist.
The violent conflict has already claimed three lives, left over 30 people injured, and displaced nearly 100,000 residents, with property damage estimated at over ₦2 billion. In response, Adeleke imposed a 24-hour curfew in the affected areas and summoned the Olufon of Ifon, Oba Peter Akinyooye, and the Olobu of Ilobu, Oba Ashiru Olaniyan, for an emergency meeting where they were handed formal warning letters.
Security forces, including the military and the Department of State Services (DSS), have been deployed to enforce the curfew and restore peace. High Chief Leke Ogunsola of Ilobu confirmed that an attempted arson attack was thwarted by security operatives. Meanwhile, Oba Akinyooye has appealed for calm, urging displaced residents to return home.
