UK Teen Loses Legal Battle Against Parents Over Forced Relocation to Ghana Boarding School
A 14-year-old British boy has lost a legal case he filed against his parents after they relocated him from London to Ghana, enrolling him in a boarding school.
According to the boy, his parents tricked him into the move by saying they were traveling to visit a sick family member in Africa.
During the hearing at the High Court in London, the teenager told the court he would never have agreed to the trip if he had known the real plan. In his testimony, he described his current life at the Ghanaian school as unbearable, saying: “I feel like I’m living in a nightmare. I want to come back to England immediately.”
The court also heard from his parents, who explained that they feared their son was being drawn into criminal activities in London, prompting their decision to send him to a stricter environment abroad.
The boy, who had lived in the UK his entire life, told the court he struggled to fit in at the Ghana school, was often teased by classmates, and frequently got into physical altercations. Language barriers added to his frustration, leaving him feeling isolated and desperate.
In a desperate bid for help, the teenager reached out to the British High Commission in Accra and contacted a charity, Children and Families Across Borders. The charity eventually connected him with legal representatives from the International Family Law Group.
In his plea, the boy wrote: “I’m from London, England. I want to go home.”
Despite his emotional appeal, the court ultimately ruled in favor of his parents, allowing them to keep him in Ghana.
