Rivers Government Expresses Shock Over Fubara’s Removal, Questions Wike’s Retention
The Rivers State Government has expressed shock over President Bola Tinubu's decision to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara while allowing Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to remain in office despite being a key figure in the state’s prolonged political crisis.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the state government described the declaration of a state of emergency as unjust. Johnson emphasized that Governor Fubara had remained committed to constitutional order, peace, and good governance despite political turbulence in the state.
He highlighted Fubara’s dedication to protecting lives, ensuring progress, and upholding his constitutional duties, even in the face of opposition. Johnson also pointed out that following President Tinubu’s intervention to broker peace, the Rivers State Government implemented the agreed resolutions in good faith, including reinstating commissioners who had resigned
