National Assembly Was Consulted Before Rivers State Emergency Declaration : House Spokesperson
The spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akin Rotimi, has confirmed that the National Assembly was duly consulted before President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, Rotimi revealed that top legislative leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Senate Leader Michael Bamidele, and House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, met with the President and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, before the official announcement.
The meeting also included key security officials such as the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), Adeola Ajayi, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mohammed Mohammed.
Rotimi’s statement comes amid widespread debates over the legality and implications of the emergency declaration, with critics arguing that the move undermines democratic governance in Rivers State.
