OPEC Appoints Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as Chairman for 2025, Nigeria’s OPEC Governor
The Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has announced the appointment of Ademola Adeyemi-Bero as chairman of its board of governors for 2025. Additionally, he will serve as Nigeria’s OPEC governor in the coming year.
Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, confirmed the appointment during the 189th meeting of the OPEC conference. In a statement released by his media aide, Nneamaka Okafor, Lokpobiri described Adeyemi-Bero’s selection as a testament to Nigeria’s active contributions to the global oil industry.
“The appointment provides Nigeria with a vital platform to advocate for balanced energy policies that benefit oil producers, consumers, and the global economy,” Lokpobiri said. He also praised the outgoing Nigerian OPEC governor, Gabriel Aduda, for his dedicated service, noting his instrumental role in advancing Nigeria’s interests within OPEC and maintaining the country’s influential presence in global energy discussions.
In addition to Adeyemi-Bero’s appointment, OPEC named Adeeb Al-Aama as Saudi Arabia’s OPEC governor and alternate chairman of the board for 2025. The conference also extended the tenure of OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais for another three years, starting August 1, 2025.
The OPEC conference brought together representatives from member countries to discuss significant issues, including reports from the secretary-general and the Economic Commission Board (ECB), and to deliberate on critical internal matters. During the meeting, OPEC extended Nigeria’s oil production quota of 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) until 2026 and reaffirmed the overall crude oil production levels for OPEC and non-OPEC participating countries, as agreed upon in the 35th OPEC and non-OPEC Ministerial Meeting, effective through December 31, 2026
