British Teen Sentenced to One Year in Dubai for Holiday RomanceMarcus Fakana

 an 18-year-old from Tottenham, has been sentenced to one year in a Dubai prison after engaging in a consensual relationship with a 17-year-old girl during a family vacation. 

The romance, which began in September, ended abruptly when the girl's mother discovered evidence of their relationship and reported it to authorities upon returning to the UK. Campaign group Detained in Dubai condemned the ruling as an "absolute disgrace," asserting that Fakana feels abandoned by the British government. 

His family is appealing for leniency from Dubai's ruler and plans to contest the sentence.
