NSCIA Appoints Five New Imams for National Mosque in Abuja
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has appointed five new imams for the National Mosque in Abuja. Ishaq Oloyede, the council's secretary-general, announced the appointments on Tuesday, December 10.
The newly appointed imams are Ilyasu Usman (visiting, Enugu State), Luqman Zakariyah (resident, Osun State), Khalid Abubakar (visiting, Plateau State), Haroun Muhammad Eze (resident, Enugu State), and Abdulkadir Salman (visiting, Kwara State).
Oloyede stated that the appointments are part of efforts to strengthen the religious affairs unit of the mosque and enhance its role as a center for worship, training, learning, and scholarship. He confirmed that the appointments had undergone thorough vetting by the General Purpose Committee (GPC) of the NSCIA, receiving endorsement from both the expanded General Purpose Committee (EGPC) and the National Fatwa Committee.
“This is a significant milestone,” Oloyede said, emphasizing the inclusion of individuals from the South-West and South-East geopolitical zones. He recalled a previous announcement regarding the mosque's administration changes, highlighting the NSCIA's commitment to appointing more imams from diverse regions, particularly the South-South and South-East.
“This news conference is a further fulfillment of that promise,” he concluded
