Former Central Bank Governor Emefiele Allegedly Owns 753 Duplexes Forfeited to EFCC
Former Central BankGovernor Godwin Emefiele is at the center of a controversy involving a vast estate in Abuja, which has reportedly been forfeited to the Nigerian government. The estate, comprising 753 duplexes, was ordered to be surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie in a court ruling on Monday. rights activist and #RevolutionNow Movement convener, Omoyele Sowore, brought the allegations to light via Twitter, questioning why the EFCC has not publicly named the former official associated with the estate. He criticized the agency for its perceived selective enforcement, highlighting that while it is quick to publicize the names and images of smaller offenders, it remains silent on high-profile cases. The estate, situated on Plot 109 Cadastral Zone C09 in Lokogoma District, Abuja, is noted as the largest asset recovery by the EFCC since its establishment in 2003. Sowore expressed frustration over the EFCC's handling of the case, suggesting that it is "AFRAID of BIG Thieves," in contrast to its aggressive stance against lower-level criminals.
