Burkina Faso Criminalizes Same Sex Relations Under New Family Code
The government of President Ibrahim Traoré has introduced a new Code of Persons and the Family, officially banning same sex relations in Burkina Faso.
Under the revised law, individuals found guilty of engaging in homosexual acts face two to five years in prison, in addition to monetary fines.
The code also restricts legally recognized marriages to those conducted under religious or customary systems.
