Thai Police Arrest Nigerian Tourist for Offering Sexual Services Online
Thai Tourist Police have apprehended a 21-year-old Nigerian man, identified only as Mr. John, on charges of offering sexual services through an online platform. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, near Thephasadin Stadium in Bangkok's Pathum Wan district.
Mr. John allegedly advertised his services for 12,000 baht, claiming it was a way to supplement his funds during his visit to Thailand. The operation was initiated after authorities received information about his activities on a public website.
Detectives set up a plan involving an undercover operative who contacted Mr. John via the Line messaging app to arrange a meeting at the stadium for negotiations. After the payment was discreetly exchanged, officers moved in to arrest him, confiscating his mobile phone, which contained evidence of the transaction.
During questioning, facilitated by an English-speaking interpreter, Mr. John revealed that he had entered Thailand as a tourist on October 21, 2024, with a visa allowing him to stay until December 19, 2024. He admitted to providing sexual services online, describing it as a side venture for extra income.
He has been charged with soliciting prostitution and is currently held at the Pathum Wan police station, where further legal proceedings will take place. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether Mr. John is part of a larger network or acting independently.
The police are urging the public to report any suspicious activities as they continue their efforts to combat illegal operations that could harm the country’s reputation
