NSCIA Declares Monday, March 31, as Eid Al-Fitr in Nigeria
The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, has announced that Eid al-Fitr will be observed in Nigeria on Monday, March 31, 2025, following the non-sighting of the crescent moon.
Despite Saudi Arabia declaring Sunday, March 30 as Eid, Nigeria adheres to the local moon sighting tradition, meaning Ramadan fasting will continue for one more day.
To mark the celebration, the Federal Government has declared Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, as public holidays. Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, congratulated Muslims on completing Ramadan, urging them to uphold values of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace while praying for Nigeria’s stability and prosperity.
