Novak Djokovic Announces Andy Murray as Offseason Coach for Australian Open
Tennis star Novak Djokovic has revealed that his longtime rival, Andy Murray, will join his coaching team for the offseason and the upcoming Australian Open. This exciting collaboration comes after Murray's retirement following the 2024 Olympic Games.
In a video posted on social media, Djokovic reflected on their storied rivalry, stating, “We played each other since we were boys. Twenty-five years of being rivals, of pushing each other beyond our limits. We had some of the most epic battles in our sport.” He continued, acknowledging their shared history as “game changers, risk takers, history makers,” and expressed his surprise at the new chapter in their relationship, saying, “It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Welcome on board coach Andy Murray.”
With 24 Grand Slam titles to his name, Djokovic is looking to extend his record with a 25th title at the Australian Open in January. Expressing his enthusiasm about this unique partnership, Djokovic added, “I am excited to have one of my greatest rivals on the same side of the net, as my coach. Looking forward to the start of the season and competing in Australia alongside Andy, with whom I have shared many exceptional moments on the Australian soil.”
Murray, who is equally enthusiastic about the collaboration, stated, “I’m going to be joining Novak’s team in the offseason, helping him to prepare for the Australian Open. I’m really excited for it and looking forward to spending time on the same side of the net as Novak for a change, helping him to achieve his goals.”
