FCT Minister Unveils Strict Deadlines for Development or Land Revocation
FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has announced new reforms to land administration in Abuja, aiming to streamline the process and curb land speculation.
The reforms, effective from April 21, 2025, focus on enforcing strict timelines for land development and the payment of statutory charges.
One key aspect of the reforms is the enforcement of a two-year development deadline for granted lands. According to Chijoke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration at the FCTA, "Any land granted should be developed within two years." Failure to meet this deadline will result in the revocation of the land title.
Additionally, land allottees now have just 21 days from the date of offer to settle all fees, rents, and charges related to the Right of Occupancy (R-of-O). "Any R-of-O bills and payments made outside the stipulated 21 days will be considered invalid," Nwankwoeze emphasized.
