Falz, Sowore, and Others Condemn Tinubu’s State of Emergency in Rivers, Call It Unconstitutional
Renowned singer and activist, Falz, along with Sahara Reporters’ founder Omoyele Sowore and other prominent voices, have strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State.
Reacting to the controversial decision, Falz stated, "There’s absolutely no law that allows a president to suspend a sitting governor." His statement echoes widespread concerns about the legality of Tinubu’s action, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the state’s sole administrator.
Sowore, a long-time advocate for democracy and human rights, also condemned the move, calling it a direct violation of Nigeria’s Constitution. "This is a dangerous precedent. No president has the power to remove a governor elected by the people," he said.
Other civil society leaders and opposition figures have joined in denouncing the decision, with many calling it an attempt to stifle democracy and silence political opposition. The declaration has sparked national outrage, with legal experts warning that it could trigger a constitutional crisis.
