Court Orders Louisville Girls School to Pay N100m for Negligence in Student's Death
The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has ordered Louisville Girls Secondary School in Gwagwalada to pay N100 million in general damages for negligence that led to the tragic death of a 9-year-old student, Kamzie Ikpeatusim.
The judgement was delivered on Tuesday by Justice Sylvanus Oriji in a suit filed by the bereaved father, Mr. Ifeanyi Ikpeatusim.
In the case marked CV/1738/18, the claimant accused the school of failing to provide adequate medical care for his daughter, who fell seriously ill shortly after joining the school as a boarding student in September 2017.
Kamzie became ill by October 2 and passed away just days later.
Justice Oriji ruled that the school and its staff acted negligently in their duty of care by not responding swiftly and appropriately to the child's medical condition. "The claimant established his allegations of negligence against the school. There is no amount of money that can bring back the child to life," the judge stated.
