Chester FC Fan Found Dead After Alleged Racist Incident at Match
A Chester FC fan, who was allegedly filmed making racist monkey gestures towards Warrington Town player Bohan Dixon during a local derby match, has tragically been found dead just hours later. The incident occurred at the Cal.Delivery Stadium on Saturday, November 30, during a National League North fixture attended by 2,296 fans. The fan was captured on video performing the gesture right after a teammate scored, prompting outrage and discussions on social media. Objects were also reportedly thrown onto the pitch during the match, which further escalated tensions among supporters. Chester FC initially expressed their dismay at the incident, stating they were "angry and dismayed at an alleged instance of racism." The club pledged to share video and photographic evidence with Cheshire Police and emphasized that "racism has no place in sport or society." They announced that anyone found to have exhibited such behavior would face an indefinite ban from attending matches. Following the incident, Chester FC condemned the actions of a minority of fans unable to behave responsibly and noted that the club would face an investigation by the Football Association. In a shocking turn of events, the club later revealed that they had been informed of the tragic death of the individual involved. "The immediate thoughts of everyone at the club are with his family and friends," they stated. Cheshire Police confirmed that the man had been identified and was scheduled to be spoken to regarding the incident before his death was reported at an address in Flint, North Wales, on December 1. Authorities noted that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, and a file is being prepared for the coroner. A police spokeswoman stated, "During the match, police were made aware of a racially aggravated public order offence. Sadly, the man was reported to have died. The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in line with standard procedure." The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Chester currently positioned seventh in the league, while Warrington remains three points above the relegation zone in 18th place.
