Afe Babalola’s Law Firm Petitions LPDC to Strike Dele Farotimi from Roll
Afe Babalola's law firm has formally submitted a 90-page petition to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC), seeking to remove Lagos-based legal practitioner Dele Farotimi from the list of legal practitioners in Nigeria. The petition, dated December 6, 2024, alleges that Farotimi violated multiple provisions of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Lawyers.
The petition, titled "Petition Against Tomilola Titus Farotimi (Also Known as Dele Farotimi Esq)," cites numerous infractions, including bringing the judiciary into disrepute through unfounded allegations of corruption against prominent figures in the Nigerian legal system. This includes accusations against justices of the Supreme Court, judges of the Lagos State High Court, and members of the Afe Babalola & Co. chambers.
Ola Faro, a partner at the law firm and signatory to the petition, emphasized that he was acting both in his personal capacity and on behalf of Afe Babalola & Co. He provided a detailed account of the alleged misconduct, asserting that Farotimi's actions are unbecoming of a legal practitioner and undermine the integrity of the legal profession.
The petition claims that Farotimi's book, "Nigeria and its Criminal Justice System," contains baseless assertions that malign the reputation of esteemed legal professionals, including Aare Afe Babalola SAN and others associated with the firm. The law firm is calling for an investigation into these allegations, contending that such conduct warrants disciplinary action.
