Trey Songz Ordered to Pay Over $11 Million in Battery Case Involving Police Officer

R&B artist Trey Songz has been ordered to pay more than $11 million in damages stemming from a 2021 battery case involving a Maryland Capitol police officer. The ruling follows a civil lawsuit filed by Officer Tyrelle Dunn, who alleged he sustained serious injuries while attempting to rescue his wife from Songz's hotel room during the singer's 37th birthday celebration at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Dunn claimed that he was attacked by Songz and his security team after he intervened when his wife reportedly screamed for help, alleging she was being held against her will. The incident left Dunn with severe injuries, including fractured eye sockets and permanent scarring, which caused him to miss work.

While Songz was cleared of criminal charges in April 2022, Dunn continued to pursue the matter through civil litigation. Court documents indicate that Songz did not respond to the lawsuit, leading to a default judgment against him.

As a result, a Las Vegas judge awarded Dunn damages that cover past medical expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages, culminating in a total exceeding $11 million.
