Namibian President Rejects Gates Foundation Birth Control Trial, Calls It Injustice to Nation

Namibia’s President, Her Excellency Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has rejected a proposal from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to carry out trials of a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) capable of preventing pregnancy for up to eight years in the country.

Describing the plan as a serious injustice to both the Namibian people and humanity, President Nandi-Ndaitwah argued that population control measures should be considered by countries with much larger populations, such as the United States, rather than a nation of just over three million people.

She stressed that any effort to restrict Namibia’s population growth undermines the future and potential of its citizens.
