Keyamo Blames Poor Construction for Frequent Repairs at Enugu Airport Amid Runway Closure

Festus Keyamo, Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has attributed the recurring repairs at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu to substandard construction work.

This statement comes shortly after the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced a temporary shutdown of the airport to allow for emergency repairs on part of the runway. 

According to Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the closure was necessary due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the runway.

Keyamo explained that the need for constant maintenance stems from foundational flaws in the airport’s construction, which have compromised its durability and safety standards. He assured the public that steps would be taken to ensure more lasting solutions moving forward.
