An Air India flight bound for London Gatwick has crashed into a residential area near Ahmedabad Airport, India, with 242 people on board, including 232 passengers and 10 crew members, according to local authorities.

The aircraft reportedly went down shortly after takeoff at approximately 1:38 PM local time, crashing into the Meghani Nagar neighborhood a densely populated civilian area near the airport.

Dramatic footage circulating on social media shows thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky and emergency services rushing to the scene. Several people were seen being carried away on stretchers as ambulances responded swiftly.
