Queen Camilla Sends Personal Letter to French Rape Survivor Gisèle Pelicot

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Camilla sent a personal letter of support to French rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot, recognizing her resilience and bravery.

Ms. Pelicot endured nearly a decade of abuse after being drugged and raped by her ex-husband, who also orchestrated assaults by dozens of other men. Deeply moved by her ordeal, Queen Camilla who has long campaigned against domestic and sexual violence expressed admiration for Ms. Pelicot’s “extraordinary dignity and courage.”

During the trial, groups of women gathered outside the courtroom to show solidarity, applauding Ms. Pelicot’s strength and even offering flowers. In December, a French court in Avignon sentenced her ex-husband, 72-year-old Dominique Pelicot, to 20 years in prison.
