U.S. Set to Deport Nigerians to Lagos, Says Ambassador

The United States government has confirmed that Nigerian deportees from the U.S. will be returned directly to Lagos, according to Richard Mills Jr., the U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria.

Speaking on the development, Mills Jr. explained that among those scheduled for deportation are individuals currently serving prison sentences in the U.S. He clarified that there would be no option for deportees to be sent to other Nigerian cities like Abuja or Port Harcourt.

“The first group to be repatriated will include convicted criminals—those who have committed offenses and are serving prison terms in the U.S. Some of them have also violated U.S. immigration laws, appealed their cases, but had their appeals denied. These are individuals who have been ordered to leave the country but have remained illegally,” the envoy stated.
