Senate Approves State of Emergency in Rivers State

Senate Approves State of Emergency in Rivers State
The Nigerian Senate has given its approval to President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, aligning with the earlier decision by the House of Representatives. This move invokes the Senate’s constitutional authority under the amended 1999 Constitution.
With this approval, President Tinubu is now empowered to implement emergency measures in the state, with a mandatory review of the situation within six months or earlier if necessary.
In compliance with constitutional provisions, the National Assembly has set up a joint committee from both chambers to oversee governance in Rivers State during this period
