Atiku Abubakar Confirms Opposition Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has officially confirmed that he and other opposition leaders are working to form a coalition aimed at unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Atiku made this declaration during a press conference in Abuja on March 20, 2025, where top political stakeholders gathered to discuss the recent state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.

The event saw the presence of notable figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai, former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha, former APC National Working Committee (NWC) member Salihu Lukman, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal.

When asked if the opposition was actively working on forming a united front against the APC, Atiku responded affirmatively, stating, "Yes."
