South-East Senators Stage Walkout Over Failed Bill to Immortalize Former NEC Chairman Humphrey Nwosu
There was drama in the Senate on March 27, 2025, as South-East senators staged a walkout in protest after a bill seeking to immortalize former NEC chairman, Humphrey Nwosu, failed to pass.
The motion, which aimed to honor Nwosu for his role in conducting the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election, was met with opposition from some lawmakers, including Senators Adams Oshiomhole and Adeola, who gave strong reasons for rejecting it.
Despite INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu’s earlier call for Nwosu to be posthumously recognized, the bill failed to gain enough support, leading to a heated debate and eventual walkout by South-East senators in protest
