House of Reps Overwhelmingly Backs State of Emergency in Rivers State
The House of Representatives has overwhelmingly voted in favor of President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
During a plenary session today, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the president’s official request, seeking legislative approval for the emergency measure. When the matter was put to a voice vote, the majority of lawmakers backed the decision without significant opposition.
Abbas confirmed that 240 lawmakers were present for the session, ensuring a quorum for the crucial vote.
The approval by the House follows a similar endorsement by the Senate, solidifying legislative backing for the emergency rule in Rivers State. With both chambers of the National Assembly supporting the declaration, the federal government now has full authority to implement emergency measures aimed at restoring stability in the crisis-ridden state.
