Nigerian Billionaire Folorunso Alakija Reportedly Loses Eyesight
Nigerian billionaire businesswoman and philanthropist, Folorunso Alakija, has reportedly lost her eyesight completely.
According to medical sources cited by SaharaReporters, the 73-year-old founder and Executive Vice Chairman of Famfa Oil developed health complications following a near air mishap while traveling with her husband, Modupe Alakija, Chairman of Famfa Oil. The incident allegedly caused a spike in her blood pressure, adversely affecting her vision.
In response to the distressing event, Alakija reportedly acquired a new jet to avoid flying with her husband. Despite this precaution, her vision continued to deteriorate until she eventually became completely blind.
Beyond her business ventures, Alakija is known for her deep religious commitment. She began hosting a small fellowship in her home around 2004, which eventually grew into the Rose of Sharon Glorious Ministry International. On her 69th birthday, she was ordained as an Apostle.
As a key stakeholder in OML 127, a lucrative oil block in the Agbami deep-water oilfield, Alakija has significantly contributed to Nigeria's oil and gas sector. Despite her recent health challenges, the Alakija family remains one of the wealthiest in Nigeria.
