The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has officially declared the Itsekiri people as descendants of Oduduwa, affirming their Yoruba heritage.
He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among all Yoruba groups, highlighting that both the Yoruba and Itsekiri share a common heritage, destiny, and aspirations.
The monarch made this declaration during a visit to his palace in Oyo by Warri royal chiefs and Itsekiri leaders, led by the Iyase of Warri Kingdom, Chief Johnson Amatsereuleghe.
Oba Owoade expressed his gratitude for the visit, which he described as a reconnection with their ancestral roots
