Sheikh Gumi Advises Nigerians to Support Negotiation Over Force in Banditry Fight

In a controversial statement Islamic cleric Sheikh Gumi urged Nigerians not to vote for politicians promising military action against bandits.

According to Gumi, bandits should not simply be seen as criminals, as many are “our warriors, our people, in the forest.” 

He encouraged voters to support leaders who favor negotiation and dialogue as the primary strategy to address the security challenges posed by banditry.
