Masquerades Lead Protest in Omu-Aran, Kwara State

Tensions rose in Omu-Aran, located in the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Friday, as two masquerades led a youth protest against what residents considered exorbitant electricity bills.

 The protest was sparked by the sudden reclassification of the community from Band C to Band A in the electricity billing system managed by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The demonstration, primarily driven by local youths, took place at Bareke Roundabout, where protesters chanted and displayed placards with messages like "Omu-Aran says no to Band A" and "Bring us back to Band C."
