Lagos Government Dismisses Claims of Foul Odor and Mosquito Infestation

The Lagos State government has pushed back against trending social media claims suggesting that the city suffers from unpleasant smells and a mosquito problem.

Tokunbo Wahab, the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, addressed the issue in response to comments made by online personality Scott Iguma during a recent podcast. Iguma stirred controversy when he stated, “Lagos is smelling… There are a lot of big mosquitoes in Lagos,” a remark that quickly went viral and sparked debate.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Wahab condemned the statements as part of a broader effort to tarnish the city’s image. He accused some influencers of using their platforms to spread misleading narratives that serve divisive interests.
