Kaduna Governor Raises Retirement Age for Academic Staff to 65

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has announced an executive order increasing the retirement age for academic staff at select state-owned tertiary institutions to 65 years.

This decision follows consultations with the governor, institutional management, and leaders of academic staff unions.

During a news briefing on Friday, Commissioner for Education Muhammad Sani Bello outlined the rationale behind the decision, highlighting that specific conditions must be met regarding the retirement threshold.

He noted that the discussions centered on five key requests, with a significant focus on addressing outstanding salaries and welfare benefits for staff.

Bello stated, "His Excellency has graciously agreed to consider those outstanding payments and benefits. However, due to the financial constraints facing the state, these payments will be made in staggered amounts until the outstanding liabilities are fully redeemed.
