Mexican wrestling icon Rey Misterio Sr., born Miguel Ángel López Días, has passed away at the age of 66. His son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio (Miguel Aarón López Hernández), shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook on December 20, stating, "Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr., passed away this morning...I will keep you informed. Thank you." The cause of death has not been disclosed.
Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide also expressed their condolences in a statement, mourning the loss of the wrestling legend and sending prayers for his eternal rest. Rey Misterio Sr.'s son, WWE superstar Dominik Misterio, paid tribute on Instagram with heartfelt images of his father, captioned simply with a heart emoji.
This tragic news comes just weeks after the passing of his brother, Roberto Gutierrez, who died at 76 on November 17. Rey Misterio Sr. began his career as a boxer before making his wrestling debut in 1976, earning numerous championships throughout his illustrious career, including the Revolution Tag Team Championship and the IWC World Middleweight Championship. His legacy in the world of wrestling will be remembered fondly by fans and fellow wrestlers alike.
