INEC Open to Allowing Voting Without PVCs in 2027 Elections Pending Legal Amendments
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has expressed its willingness to permit eligible Nigerians without Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote in the 2027 general elections, contingent upon the amendment of current electoral laws.
Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, confirmed this stance in an interview with The PUNCH, emphasizing that while the commission supports broadening voter access through technology, it cannot implement such a change without legal backing.
Oyekanmi explained that INEC is open to expanding voting criteria beyond PVCs, but the necessary legal framework must be in place to allow this shift.
