Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo effective immediately, following the filing of three separate petitions against her. 

This marks an unprecedented action in Ghana's judicial history, as it is the first time a sitting chief justice has faced disciplinary proceedings under constitutional procedures.

The suspension follows consultations with the Council of State, which concluded that a prima facie case had been established. The presidency issued a statement confirming the decision, stating that Torkornoo would remain suspended while an investigation takes place
