Nigeria Enhances Food Security with Introduction of 10,000 Tractors

Nigeria is taking significant steps to bolster food security through the introduction of 10,000 tractors aimed at supporting mechanized farming efforts. This initiative is spearheaded by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), which has received a presidential mandate to oversee the rollout.

The first phase of deployment will see 2,000 John Deere tractors introduced in the first and second quarters of 2025. The plan aims to expand to a total of 10,000 units over the next five years, marking a major investment in the country’s agricultural sector.

During the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AGCOMS International Trading Limited, the authorized dealer for John Deere tractors, Mohammed Ibrahim, Executive Secretary and CEO of NADF, made the announcement in Abuja. This collaboration is designed to implement a comprehensive mechanization initiative across Nigeria's agricultural landscape.

Ibrahim highlighted that the Federal Executive Council sanctioned stakeholder engagement in October 2024, which included discussions with both international and local partners, a visit to John Deere, and thorough negotiations on contract terms.

He stated, “We have finally come to an agreement that entails all the terms and conditions agreed to. We are here to sign that agreement between the National Agricultural Development Fund and AGCOMS
