Nigerian space scientist Dr. Temidayo Oniosun has sparked debate after criticising Nigerians who are willing to pay thousands of pounds for a one-year Master’s degree in the UK but are reluctant to pay comparatively lower university fees in Nigeria. ????????

In a post shared on X on September 14, 2026, Oniosun questioned the difference in how some Nigerians value foreign and local education.

He wrote:

“Nigerians will happily pay £15,000 for tuition in the UK for a useless one year Masters program but paying £500 for a 5yr Bachelors degree in Nigeria is where they draw the line. Bunch of ungrateful and entitled people.”

His comments have triggered conversations about the cost and perceived value of Nigerian universities, foreign education, and why some students and families are willing to spend significantly more to study abroad.
