Tinubu Grants Posthumous Presidential Pardon to Ken Saro-Wiwa and Ogoni Nine

President Bola Tinubu has officially granted a full posthumous pardon to the late environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others collectively known as the Ogoni Nine decades after their controversial execution.

The announcement was made on Thursday during Tinubu’s address to a joint session of the National Assembly in celebration of Democracy Day. Exercising his constitutional powers under the Prerogative of Mercy, Tinubu described the group as “national heroes” who had paid the ultimate price for their activism.

Saro-Wiwa and his fellow activists were executed in 1995 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha, sparking international outrage and long-standing demands for justice.
