Jega Urges Electronic Transmission of Election Results to Deepen Nigeria’s Democracy

Former INEC Chairman, Attahiru Jega, has advocated for the adoption of electronic transmission of election results as a crucial step toward strengthening Nigeria’s democratic processes.

Speaking on Thursday at The Platform, a Democracy Day event hosted by Covenant Nation in Lagos, Jega emphasized that credible elections are fundamental to the nation’s political stability. 

He argued that fully embracing technology in the electoral process especially in result collation would enhance transparency and public trust.

Jega, who served as the head of Nigeria’s electoral commission during pivotal national elections, stressed that reforms such as electronic result transmission are necessary to reduce manipulation and ensure the integrity of the vote.
