Robert Francis Prevost Becomes First American Pope

In a groundbreaking decision, the Vatican announced on Thursday that Robert Francis Prevost has been elected as the new pope, making history as the first American to lead the Roman Catholic Church. 

Prevost, a close associate of the late Pope Francis, is renowned for his moderate views and extensive missionary work in Peru.

 With his election, he becomes the 267th pontiff in the Church's long history and has chosen the papal name Leo XIV.
