Despite Tariff Hike, Data Usage in Nigeria Surges in March - NCC

In a surprising turn, data usage in Nigeria continued to rise despite a significant 50% hike in telecom tariffs. New data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) reveals an 11.5% increase in mobile data consumption for March 2025, just a month after the new rates took effect.

According to the NCC, Nigerians used 995,876.10 terabytes of data in March, up from 893,054.80 terabytes in February. 

This surge came even though telecom prices for calls, SMS, and data increased starting in February after the NCC approved the new tariff structure on January 20.
