Nigeria Tribunal Upholds $220M Fine Against Meta and WhatsApp
Nigeria's Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal has reaffirmed the $220 million fine imposed on Meta Platforms Inc. and its subsidiary, WhatsApp, for breaching data protection regulations affecting Nigerian users.
The ruling also mandates that Meta and WhatsApp pay $35,000 to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to cover investigation costs, with both payments due within 60 days from April 30, 2025
