Apple Shifts iPhone Production to India

Apple is accelerating plans to have almost all iPhones sold in the United States assembled in India by late 2026, reducing its reliance on China due to growing tariffs.

The tech giant is in confidential discussions with longtime partner Foxconn and new collaborator Tata, aiming to shift around 60 million units (roughly 80% of its U.S. sales).

Though producing iPhones in India is 5-10% more expensive, Apple has found ways to offset this cost. In March, it chartered cargo flights that transported 600 tons of iPhones valued at $2 billion to the U.S., avoiding China’s steep tariffs and paying a lighter 26% duty on imports from India
