Man Wins $50 Million Lawsuit Against Starbucks After Hot Tea Causes Severe Injury
A California jury has awarded $50 million in damages to Michael Garcia, a delivery driver who suffered permanent disfigurement after a Starbucks employee allegedly mishandled a scalding hot tea.
Garcia, who was working as a Postmates driver in February 2020, claimed that a cup of tea fell from a cardboard carrier at a Los Angeles Starbucks drive-thru, spilling onto his lap. The incident resulted in severe burns, leading to lasting injuries.
His attorney, Nick Rowley, stated that the accident had devastating consequences:
"No amount of money can undo the permanent catastrophic harm he has suffered, but this jury verdict is a critical step in holding Starbucks accountable for its disregard for customer safety."
