Keyamo Insists Foreign Airlines Must Use Local Caterers to Get Summer Schedule Approval

Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has issued a strong warning to foreign airlines operating within the country, stating that their summer flight schedules will not be approved unless they collaborate with Nigerian catering companies for their in-flight meal services.

The minister first introduced this policy on October 15, 2024, mandating all international carriers operating in Nigeria to source their onboard meals from local catering providers. According to Keyamo, full compliance was expected to begin on January 1, 2025, as part of a broader effort to strengthen Nigeria’s economy by supporting local businesses.

During a stakeholders’ forum held in Lagos on Friday, February 28, Keyamo reiterated his position, expressing displeasure that some airlines have not yet complied.

“No foreign airline will get my approval for their summer flight schedule unless they present a valid contract showing they have officially engaged Nigerian catering companies for their onboard meals,” the minister warned
