INEC Schedules Nationwide Bye-Elections for August 16, 2025

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially set August 16, 2025, as the date for bye elections to fill vacant seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, and state Houses of Assembly across 12 states.

Announcing the development on Thursday, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed during a meeting with political party leaders in Abuja that approximately 3.55 million registered voters will participate in the upcoming elections.

Professor Yakubu explained that since the inauguration of the National and State Assemblies in June 2023, several vacancies have emerged due to resignations and deaths.

 While nine bye elections were previously conducted in February last year, more vacancies have since been declared.
