Former Saudi Pro League defender Álvaro González has revealed that he went six months without receiving his salary after moving to Saudi Arabia.

“I wasn’t worried because I had already spent 14 years in football and had saved some money, but I had gone there to earn money.”

According to González, the payment delays began before Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Saudi Arabia in December 2022.

He said Ronaldo later learned about the situation and, after being told he would receive his first government-backed salary, reportedly insisted that some of the unpaid players should be paid first.

“He didn’t have to do it, but Cristiano did!” González recalled.
